Member Spotlight – Volunteer Fairfax

Why was your organization founded?
Volunteer Fairfax is building a better community through service. As a respected leader of community volunteerism for more than 31 years, Volunteer Fairfax connects individuals, youth, seniors, families and corporations to volunteer opportunities at more than 700 organizations in the Fairfax County area.
Why is your organization unique? How do you affect the quality of life in Virginia?
Volunteer Fairfax mobilizes people and resources to meet community needs. Volunteer Fairfax has worked with more than 50,000 volunteers since its inception and has helped give more than 500,000 hours of volunteer service back to the community through its programs such as the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards, Volunteers for Change, VolunteerFest, A Celebration of Giving and Sharing, the emergency response program, and Business Link, a corporate community volunteer matching program.
What recent accomplishment are you most proud of?
In 2005, Volunteer Fairfax generated 44,000 volunteer hours, a $750,000 value in volunteer time to nonprofits, through the 10,000 volunteer opportunities on the Center’s website.
